This webinar describes how pediatric foot & gait development is worsening due to the influences of a modern lifestyle. Specifically, it addresses why pediatric flat foot is never "asymptomatic", and its negative effects on gait and postural control.

"Good foot development doesn’t occur just because we’ve been on the planet for a number of years! It needs a crucial time period of IDEAL function to correctly influence soft tissue structure, ligament status, muscle activity, boney architecture, & nervous system maturation, so that we can limit compensations & make our feet last step after step, hour after hour, year after year!” (Liesa)

Foot posture does not change solely due to chronological age. It is actually a result of ideal function. The bones of an infant are soft & therefore the immature skeleton is extremely susceptible to the influences to which it is subjected. Research shows that the critical period for arch development is before age 6.

"We need to understand that the child’s foot develops in relation to function. Poor function leads to poor foot alignment. Clumsiness, balance problems, weakness, etc are often made worse by poor foot alignment. Here’s how we can help, both now and for the future...and why we shouldn’t wait!" (Liesa)
