This webinar will explain the rationale and importance of early intervention when treating children diagnosed with pediatric flat foot. The presenter will discuss common myths related to the treatment (or lack thereof!) of childhood foot disorders and why ‘blind neglect’ is not the appropriate course of treatment. It will provide the participants age specific protocols to help them determine when treatment intervention is necessary, and tools for educating parents and referring practitioners on the importance of early management. This session will review why ‘pain’ should not be the only consideration when determining whether or not to treat a child, and why other factors such as posture, strength, endurance, coordination and balance should be given equal attention. Torsional deformities and toe walking are reviewed with an explanation on the use of gait plates. A brief literature review of recent pediatric orthotic studies is also covered. Participants will be required to complete and submit a post webinar quiz and course evaluation for CEU eligibility. Participants must complete and pass a post-webinar quiz for credits to be awarded.

This webinar will provide an introduction to functional foot typing and gait analysis utilizing a simple 4-Step method of visual gait assessment. The presentation will give an overview of 24 variations of the “normal” adult foot, and protocols for classifying feet into 6 major subgroups or “Quads”. This 4-Step Foot Typing method is quick and easy to learn and will offer the practitioner a biomechanically based approach to gait assessment and foot classification. The participant will learn that each “Quad” presents with specific foot traits, such as arch height, toe sign, callouses, and gait pattern; which can predispose a patient to a particular array of clinical conditions. Participants will be required to complete and submit a post webinar quiz and course evaluation for CEU eligibility.

Due to busy lifestyles, technology, and many other societal aspects, children today develop under a completely different set of circumstances compared to the children of previous generations. Today, children are moving less than ever, but the purpose of ideal development remains unchanged.

In this webinar, we’ll look at the positioning toys such as the Bumbo & exersaucers...what is marketing & what is really beneficial?

25 years after Back to Sleep was launched...what does the research say?

Also, the importance of play & the dangers of screens & technology will be addressed.

*Prerequisite: Assessing Functional Foot Types in Four Easy Steps. This webinar goes over detailed frame by frame video gait analysis on various foot types and covers recommended orthotic designs for each of those foot types including common foot pathologies and treatment goals. The instructor will review the intricate effect on gait that occurs when an Uncompensated (supinated) Rearfoot Varus, is coupled with either a Rigid Forefoot Varus, a Neutral Forefoot or a Forefoot Valgus. Plus a similar review is done when a Compensated (pronated) Rearfoot, is coupled with either a Forefoot Varus/Supinatus, a Neutral Forefoot or a Forefoot Valgus.

This webinar will explain the functional compensations that occur dynamically during contact, midstance and propulsive phases of gait; and the resultant pathologies that can occur as a consequence. It will compare and contrast the differences between a flexible forefoot supinatus, and a true (typically congenital) rigid forefoot varus. Plus what happens when there is a forefoot valgus. The instructor will explain why foot orthotics for some foot types will require extrinsic forefoot posting, as well as other specific orthotic design features necessary to control gait and balance the body at each segment of the gait cycle. The 3 ‘W’ method of orthotic design is also explained. Plus some specific case studies are reviewed and common orthotic ‘failures’ are discussed. Participants will be required to complete and submit a post webinar quiz and course evaluation for CEU eligibility.

This course will be a live program utilizing lecture and lab with plenty of demonstration and hands-on practice. Student to faculty ratio will be no more than 15:1.

The QUADRASTEP SYSTEM® is based on a clinical algorithm identifying 24 unique foot-types. These 24 foot-types are subdivided into 6 groupings of 4, known as "quads." Each quad has its own very specific foot and gait characteristics. A patient's foot-type (quad-type) influences not only their gait, but the conditions that may afflict them throughout their lives.

This one-day program examines pathological gait conditions, resulting from the occurrence of rearfoot varus deformities (compensated and uncompensated), forefoot varus and forefoot valgus deformities, as well as their combined effects. The student will learn to perform visual static and dynamic gait analysis, interpreting key weight-bearing compensations, in order to differentially interpret a patient's foot type. Students are taught how to implement the QUADRASTEP SYSTEM® algorithmic process to classify an individual's foot into one of 6 major foot, or "Quad", types. Students will come to understand how the specific gait sequencing of each foot type may predispose an individual to a certain set of pathologies.

This updated program provides an in-depth review of the 6 main foot types (Quads) in greater detail than has ever been provided before. The new material and course format provides a comprehensive introduction to practitioners who are new to the QUADRASTEP SYSTEM® while still being suitable and providing new material for anyone who has attended our classes previously.

This course provides the attendee an over-view of normal and pathological foot biomechanics, an introduction to a simple, inexpensive method of video gait analysis and a common sense approach to foot orthotic selection and design. It includes reviewing the normal development of a child's foot, as well as Developmental Flat Foot and torsional deformities in children.

The 6 major adult foot-types will be presented in detail with their typical clinical conditions and how each foot-type may correlate specific rehabilitation goals.

  • Foot Biomechanics Review presented in a way that is simple and easy to understand
  • Rearfoot Deformities: Compensated vs Uncompensated and what that really means
  • Forefoot Deformities: Varus and Valgus
  • Simple Video Gait analysis
  • Clinical Conditions by Foot Type
  • Orthotic Selection Process and Prescription
  • A Review of Individual Case Studies

Lab sessions will include foot-typing fellow students using a simple 4 step Assessment process and actual fitting of Quad specific pre-fabricated functional foot orthoses. At the conclusion of this program, each participant will have a detailed comprehension of assessment of foot-type, without the need for complicated goniometric measurements. The student will leave this program skilled in a more functional approach to foot and gait assessment, allowing them to return to their clinic with the ability to offer their patients a more immediate and cost effective orthotic solution.

This program offers a comprehensive approach to determining orthotic intervention that combines traditional with contemporary theory to provide a more holistic approach to managing gait disorders. Lab time is devoted to teaching functional assessment of 24 congenital foot types through postural assessment and gait analysis. Clinical evidence shows that there are four key features that influence how feet work, and various combinations of these features can produce foot, limb or back pain. Learn a systematic approach to successful management of symptoms utilizing prefabricated orthotic solutions; and, alternatively how to determine if a custom orthosis is necessary.

Continuing Education Testimonial

"Roberta invested a lot of time to train my team so that we would get out of the gate running with the Quadrastep program. First, she conducted multiple webinars to prepare us for what to expect in her intensive, three day workshop. Then, she and her staff traveled to Lexington to spend an entire day training our team on how to foot type, run a semi-custom clinic and more before two days of clinic with us and our patients.

I can't say enough about the teaching ability of both Roberta and her staff. They gave my team confidence and assured them that they would become 'old pros' at foot typing soon. It was fun watching my team respond to them – they can be shy, withdrawn and even skeptical during situations where they feel 'on the spot' during a continuing education experience. It was quite the opposite this time! They were all interested and engaged. I credit Roberta and her staff for that. If you are considering the Quadrasteps for your own office, do yourself a favor and have Roberta's team teach you in person."
